OneUnited Bank is established.

1982

Originally the Boston Bank of Commerce, it is founded by Juan Cofield and others. The new bank assumes the assets of the former Unity Bank, struggles initially, then becomes the first African-American-owned bank to go national by acquiring banks in Miami, and Los Angeles, assumes its current name, and subsequently becomes the largest predominantly African-American financial institution in the U.S.
